Lou Gibson, who was the face of Stranahan High athletics from 1957 through 1995, died Thursday night, November 6. He was 92.

Gibson was on the original football staff as an assistant to coach Clyde Underwood. He became the head coach for the Dragons in 1959 and for 15 seasons was respected as one of the top football coaches of his time.

He stepped down as Stranahan coach following the 1973 season with a 86-51-11 record, having had only three losing seasons

His biggest contribution was to the whole county," said former Stranahan football coach Rick Perry. "He was just a great guy to work with. He was gentleman for the game and the school. I never met anyone who didn't like him."Gibson was also the Stranahan athletic director from 1974 to 1992.

"I will remember him for his love for children and his easy demeanor," said current Stranahan AD Jen Hamilton, who was an athlete at the school when Gibson was there. "He was hard on us, but fair."

He went way out of his way to help me in a difficult time. A role model for me on what it meant to be a coach and man.
