Memories of Phil Tucker
By Graham Pugh
|
|
Phil and I go all the way back to 7th
grade when New River Jr. Hi was temporarily housed at
the Naval Air Station. We had several classes
together including home room. It was there that we
tried to make each other laugh and outdo one another.
Mr. Rosell was our home room teacher and it seemed that
I was always the one who got into trouble for our
antics!
Phil had an infectious belly laugh
that was sometimes accompanied by a honking sound.
One of my fondest memories was the day Phil let out his
famous honking laugh during geography class. I
don't know why he did it, but it sure cracked me up. His
timing was perfect! Our teacher thought I was the
perpetrator and sent me to the dean's office. I
never really got into trouble for this, and have always
remembered it because it was so funny.
Phil and I remained friends all through high school and
had several classes together.

Phil &
Graham at the 60th Birthday Party in Cherokee,
North Carolina. It was really good to see
him. |
|
Like many school friendships, we went
our separate ways after graduation but were re-connected
at the 60th Birthday Party in North Carolina.
There was instant continuity and it seemed as if I had
just seen him the day before. We had a lot to talk
about.
During the times that followed, Phil and I stayed in
touch by e- mail and had several telephone
conversations. Phil was a fine man who obviously
loved his family and had a set of admirable values.
He will always be remembered.
