She had only heard a couple of rumors as to how Wayne was burned and both were totally untrue. I told her the real story, without the parts that probably would have upset her. She was very appreciative and very glad to hear the real story. I am glad I called her and only wish that I had done it 43 years ago. She heard that Wayne was wounded the day he died and then was told the next day that he had died. I am really surprised that someone in our unit, like the Captain, didn't contact her at all. I gave her my email and phone number in case she had any questions in the future. Thanks for making this connection for me.
