Our football season ended on a sour note last week. On Monday we played a make-up game with South Broward, rescheduled because of hurricane Irma and lost 22-18. It was a hard fought game, we just came up a little short and the clock ran out on us. Then on Friday night we played our regular cross town rival Ft. Lauderdale, still homecoming for both schools, we were the visiting team so we had after game activities this year. The final score was Ft. Lauderdale 24 SHS 19. So ends another year of SHS football reporting. To recap the year, Our overall record was 6-5-1 ( that includes pre-season games) In District we ended up in third place behind American heritage and Cardinal Gibbons. We were 3-2 in district, losing only to the 2 above mentioned teams. Nationaly we were ranked 1225, and in the state of Florida we ranked 99th. Thanks for another year of support and as Gordon Solle used to say..."so long from the sunshine state"......Cub reporter signing off for another. year.............ray heaton Jr.

Oct. 20, SHS vs. Coconut Creek, With a tough defense that also scored 3 touchdowns, Jamaal Ruffen scored on a 45 yard fumble return and then a 13 yard interception. Kyle McGregor scored the other one picking off a batted pass and ran it back 50 yards. 68 yards was all the CC offence could gain. Final score SHS 23, CC 0 This was a District 16-5A game. The Dragons are now 5-3 overall and 3-1 in conference games. Next week in an away game we play Cardinal Gibbons who are 7-1 overall. Then on 11-3 we play cross town rival Ft. Lauderdale Flying L's to close out this years season.

I just finished watching the great video and images of the Class of ’65 70th Birthday Party that were posted by Graham; thanks. Good Job to all who worked on the planning committee. Hurricane Irma sure cut the participation from South Florida based Dragons but I am sure most resolve to appear at the next planned gathering. A Happy 70th Birthday to all of the SHS Class of 1965!

Frustrated, excited, and disappointed, that pretty much sums up the SHS/ Dillard game Thurs. night. SHS led 6-0 at halftime In the 4th quarter Dillard led 20-6 with 3 minutes to go.an 80 yard fumble return for a TD, then a long pas for another TD, tied the game at 20-20. Dillard has 58 sec. left to try for a win. they didn't so we went to OT. SHS won the toss and took offence, 4 plays later no score. Dillard used 2 plays to score and won the game 26-20.to top it off it rained most of the 2nd half. Dillards Band put on a terrific half time show.
Next week SHS hosts American Heritage who by the way were State champs in their division last year....still a cub reporter.Ray Heaton Jr.

It was a surprise to me!!! In this mornings paper in the sports section, I read where St. Thomas & SHS played football last night. the score St. Thomas 44, SHS 0. St. Thomas is ranked 3rd in the nation in Max-preps ratings. SHS had -31 yards in 38 attempts. I need to do a better job, maybe that's why I'm still a cub reporter................LOL
